Our research team in HP Labs in Bristol is focused on 3D imaging technologies.

As part of this activity we have currently a great opportunity for a technical expert to become 3D Imaging Research Scientist responsible for the research and building of novel prototype 3D imaging/metrology solutions.

As a successful candidate with a proven track record of research and/or successful 3D imaging/metrology development projects, you will join our strong team of 5 passionate professionals based in UK and US. Your major area of focus will be to conduct advanced lab research, taking direct ownership for developing experiments and prototypes to seeing them through from design to deployment, working closely with other members of the team and across the rest of HP. As part of that role, your day will consist of the following core responsibilities:

  • Carrying out the investigation, design, development, execution, and implementation of novel 3D Imaging/metrology systems
  • Contributing to expand research plans, investigative procedures
  • Collaborating with internal and external partners to perform experiments and validations in accordance with overall research plan
  • Developing and carrying out processes for collecting, recording, analyzing data and communicate results and conclusions to team members for review and feedback
  • Preparing documents and presentations for peer review, publication, and delivery at industry and scientific events and conferences
  • Creating patent applications and supporting documentation
  • Providing guidance and mentoring to less-experienced staff members

Who are we looking for?

A strong technical contributor with the following skills:

  • Computer Vision
  • Programming  - C/C++, MatLab, Python, TensorFlow, GPU
  • AI/ML
  • Mathematics, statistics and scientific computing

An independent professional with an interest in:

  • Optics
  • Image/Audio Processing
  • Robotics, CAD Design, 3D printing
  • Materials science background/interest

A passionate methodologist with

  • Eye for detail
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Extensive experience with application and implementation of experimental design, scientific procedures and processes, and data analysis
  • Typically 6+ years of experience, including graduate or postgraduate research
  • Bachelor's, Master's or PHD degree in Computer Science or Engineering or equivalent
