The following posting is a pipeline requisition, meant to accumulate candidates for 2021 Summer Internships. Qualified applicants will be contacted in concert with the approval and publication of identical, approved positions within HP.

Repair and Maintenance Technician Intern

HPI in Corvallis, Oregon has a long history of actively recruiting interns and partnering with students to help develop and recruit talent into our industry.  Our campus encompasses two million square feet of building space 41% of which is dedicated to cleanrooms, labs, and manufacturing lines for a variety of printing technology products and new product development (R&D). We are a leader in MEMS (micro electrical mechanical systems) technology and are excited about helping HP develop the future of additive manufacturing (3D). 

These Intern positions are intended for students pursuing a degree in a technical discipline, who are on track to graduate within a year of completing the internship. Internships start in June and end in early September, and are paid full time positions. Successful completion of internship may result in a full time offer of employment upon graduation.

Primary Responsibilities:

Work with assigned mentor(s) to:

  • Provide maintenance & process support to assigned work area & equipment to ensure business objectives are met. 
  • Maintain equipment to established standards by performing both preventative maintenance and repairs using documented procedures.
  • Complete corrective actions to identified problems using sound troubleshooting skills.
  • Perform support tasks such as part clean, rebuilds, part stocking, and departmental housekeeping.
  • Document and maintain historical records and repair details for failure analysis and continuous improvement efforts.
  • Develop and implement process / equipment fixtures or aids to improve equipment performance, safety or maintainability.
  • Interact with cross functional organizations (purchasing, engineering, production, facilities, management) to coordinate repairs.
  • Promote teamwork both on and across shifts within the department. Maintain a safe and clean work environment, practice good safety habits and accepted protocols.
  • Certify to process operations requirements to provide operational coverage when necessary. 

Workcenter  Responsibilities

Understand and participate in workcenter priorities, which may include meetings, shutdown activities, projects, coordinator roles, and escalations. Utilize continuous improvement methodologies to meet workcenter objectives and improve metrics. Document and communicate activities to counterparts on all shifts and area Curator. Attend required training and maintain certifications for assigned tool sets.

Projects and other organizational responsibilities

Interns may be asked to work with their mentor(s) to design, complete, & present a project within the scope of their duties.  Projects are designed to be a demonstration of real world, continuous improvement as applied to the interns assigned work area.

Required skills:

  • Working towards a two or four year degree in a technical field.
  • Strong electro-mechanical background.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively.
  • Ability to apply knowledge in relative areas of technologies (Electronics, Computer Science, Vacuum Technology, Pneumatics, Mechanics, Optics)
  • Able to work in cleanroom environment (Cleanroom suit is worn). May include standing, sitting, working in confined spaces, use of hand tools, able to read prints and understand written theory of operation.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a technical, fast paced, R&D environment.
  • May include off-shift work (3 shifts, 5 days/wk.).
  • Demonstrated enthusiasm to learn and apply skills learned in school, and on the job.
